If there is one thing I have learned about Japan down the years, it is that you should never underestimate the potential of this place to amaze and enthral you. So too was this the case when I recently visited Tokushima Prefecture for the first time.

Experience ‘hadaka no tsukiai' at Fukiage onsen - where locals mix with tourists in a natural onsen under the trees. Too shy for a soak? Just walk down and dip a toe in these magical waters. Soaking in Fukiage costs nothing and will enrich your skin with minerals and your mind with memories.

It is a beautiful destination where couples enjoy the sunset or groups of tourists take a thousand photos of the view. But that is not how you “do” a mountain. You climb it. Properly. Who doesn’t know about Lakes Kawaguchi and Saiko? Apparently anyone outside Japan. Famous lakes in Yamanashi prefecture, which have always been locations for tourists to take a photo with the beautiful Mount Fuji in the background.
