Food Expedition in Kobe
Kobe, which is just a train away from Osaka and Kyoto, is the capital city of Hyogo Prefecture and is one of the largest cities in Japan. Most tourists fall in love with the cityscape especially at night. Since it is a harbor town, you can get to experience a very original and unusual facet of Japan whether it’s the busy streets of Chinatown or the elegant Paris-like admiration for fashion of the people.
The place is well-known for its Kobe beef but there are other noteworthy dishes to try. Add spice to your dining trips and head to Kobe!
STEAK LAND KOBE-KAN
The perfect way to enjoy the place is to have yourself a plate of Kobe beef. Most people are intimidated by the prices of wagyu (Japanese beef) which can range from ¥10,000 to ¥30,000. Worry not! There’s Steak Land Kobe-Kan to satisfy your cravings.
Look at that marble! You can request on how it’ll be cooked (eg. rare, medium, etc.)
For only 3,000++ JPY, you can enjoy a 150g plate of Kobe beef with toasted garlic and vegetables, salad, rice, pickles, and coffee. It’s a great deal for those who have been craving for Kobe beef but don’t want to hurt their pockets. This set, however, is only during lunch time. Be sure to check out their menu and prices on their website.

One of my most recommended spots is Nawa Jyoti. It’s not considered to be a touristic spot but I think the service and quality of food are worth a journey. Located in the heart of a residential area, Nawa Jyoti offers great Indian and Nepalese food such as various types of curry and nans.
The interior is well-designed with Indian and Nepalese decors. The yellow lights add warmth and coziness while the colorful accents make the place merrier and welcoming to the guests. But the best feature of the place is the servers who never fail to smile and cater to the guests. Check out more on their official site.

Looking for a cheap alternative for Kobe beef? Try Red Rock. It’s not the same as a piece of Kobe beef but Red Rock’s famous Roast Beef Don (don means a big bowl of rice topped with food) will leave you full and very satisfied. The restaurant also serves steak don, locomoco, curry and offers a variety of sizes.
As of now, the restaurant has become a chain store and has built many branches. But I highly recommend you to try the one in Sannomiya. You can stroll around the shopping district on a late afternoon and have a big bowl of Red Rock’s roast beef for dinner. The Sannomiya branch is a bit small so it helps that you place an order beforehand through a vending machine. It’s very popular among tourists and yuppies so you may have to probably wait in line. The place has a cozy and dim atmosphere which makes it a good spot for dating! Want something besides steak don, be sure to check out their official website.
