Every year in winter the Zoo holds a capybara hot spring event. It usually starts at the end of November and lasts until early April. During the event on most weekends and certain weekdays the capybaras of the Zoo will take a bath in hot springs that the zoo constructed specifically for the capybaras.

Most people don’t know that you can enjoy hanami (flower viewing) in late February to early March if you visit the Izu Peninsula.

For those wishing to see Mount Fuji in all its glorious majesty and wonder, there are many towns surrounding it and one town, Numazu in Shizuoka Prefecture, is host to a scenic view of Fuji everyday. Numazu is a great getaway spot and it is also a pleasant fishing town with a bustling harbor and you can find many delicious sushi restaurants with meals that are rare to find anywhere else.

The Izu region is blessed with beaches, made of pebbles, or white sand, or black sand, or simply cliffs, they are more or less close to Tokyo, making them the ideal one day trip or one week vacation destinations.
