Art Aquarium 2015 : Where Art and Goldfish Meet
The art event “ART AQUARIUM 2015 ~ Edo, Coolness of Kingyo ~ & Night Aquarium” will open on July 10th.
The unique art event features kingyo or goldfish, which has been a symbol of Japanese summer scenery since the Edo period. The special art exhibition themed Wa, or Japonism, displays mysterious aquatic worlds with advanced technology such as lighting, images, music and scents. The previous events have drawn attention because of the gigantic tank with as many as 5000 goldfish. This year’s exhibition features two main art works : one portrays the interactive art form Fusuma, a traditional Japanese sliding door, with gracefully swimming goldfish, and the other focuses on Hasu, a lotus flower with an interactive motif of goldfish swimming in it.
In the exhibition, some well-known goldfish types such as Wakin, Demekin, Ryukin and the like are showcased, and some rarer variety of goldfish also show up.
From 19:00, the lighting and music change, and the venue turns into “Night Aquarium”.
