Welcome to the wonderful world of manga and anime! If you are an anime fan, or if you just feel like being a part of one of the biggest anime events in the world, then AnimeJapan is the place to be!
AnimeJapan is an annual event held in Tokyo, combining the Tokyo International Anime Fair and the Anime Contents Expo into one great BIG anime convention! This convention is not only for fans, who seek goodies and answers about an upcoming series or episode from writers, business talks are also available for companies or anyone interested!
This year’s AnimeJapan 2015 was held at Tokyo Big Sight, which is Japan’s largest exhibition center. More than 120,000 visitors came this year! The convention was only for one weekend, starting from 19th March until the 22nd of March, from 10 am to 5 pm, but fans (me included) started queuing as early as 7 am! Although it was a long line, we were entertained by the sights of cosplayers, all set and ready for the cameras.
The exhibitions were divided into the two main halls. More than 100 sponsors had booths opened up, including Comico, Aniplex, and Animate just to name a few. There is an open theatre for anime viewing, as well as a Production Work Street that shows the entire process of anime production! Visitors who brought family along can relax at the Family Anime Festa, where their children can have a go at the Kids Anime Studio, Play Corner, and even greet characters! Fans who are planning a serious career in anime can apply for the Experience Course of Creator program. It is a seminar style workshop with professional instructors to give a tip or two regarding directing, designing and screenwriting.
A collaboration showcase with the theme of “Anime and Traditional Crafts” was also on display. Other than that, a charity auction booth for victims of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami recovery was open. I managed to catch a glimpse of Hatsune Miku as well as an interesting fight scene between Goku, Bezita and Frieza! Among my favorite activites had to be the puzzle solving event by Detective Conan.
Last but not least, the best part of any anime event, the COSPLAYERS! A section called “Cosplayer’s World” were open both inside and outside the hall. Fans can take pictures with their beloved anime characters brought to life! On the other hand, if you want to cosplay yourself, then this is the chance for you to show off that costume you have been working so hard on! If you don’t have a costume of your own, don’t worry because you can rent one!
Well, that’s all for AnimeJapan 2015. If you didn’t get a chance to go this year, then prepare yourself the one next year! There is ample of time to look for tickets as well as work on that cosplay outfit you are going to want to wear! Mark your calendars, and I hope to see you at the next AnimeJapan 2016!
