“The Jidai Matsuri Festival,” one of the three greatest festivals of Kyoto, is a festival for Heian Jingu Shrine in Kyoto-shi, and it is held annually on October 22nd. It attracts tourists not only from Japan, but also from overseas.
With the Jidai Matsuri Festival, the procession marches around the streets of Kyoto for about two hours. It leaves Kenrei-mon gate of Kyoto Gosho Palace, and it marches through Sakaimachi-Gomon, Karasuma-Marutamachi, Karasuma-Miike, Kawaramachi-Miike, Kawaramachi-Sanjo, Sanjo Ohashi, Sanjo Jingu-do, and Heian Jingu Shrine.
There are some paid viewing seats available to enjoy the parade, and they are perfect for those wishing to view them in a relaxing manner.
They also have Jidai Matsuri Map available, which comes in handy when you want to view the parade at various places.
One of the highlights of the Jidai Matsuri Festival is that famous historical figures that are in the parade. You can see the figures including Oda Nobunaga, Sakamoto Ryoma, Princess Kazunomiya, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Yodogimi, Murasaki Shikibu
