The Tokyo Design Festa is held for a weekend each year in May and in November at the massive Tokyo Big Sight exhibition halls near Odaiba, Tokyo.
Talking robot animals or panties in vending machines - Japan is always known for its great and weird ideas. Also it is the country of countless ‘yurukara’ aka cutesy mascots and anime fandom.
Kyoto is definitely the city offering the most beautiful scenery to enjoy the blooming cherry trees. The old and well preserved temples and shrines as well as the many traditional old houses and gardens in the Kyoto area will give you a flashback to hundreds of years ago in the land of the rising sun. Japanese have always embraced the cherry blossoms so this is a very traditional and pure part of the Japanese culture.
Tokyo’s cherry trees (known as ‘sakura’) will be in full bloom soon - time to gather your friends, some food and drinks and head to a nice spot for hanami (cherry blossom viewing)! Although it is still pretty cold these days, the first signs of spring are to be seen in many parts of Japan. Apart from the famous cherry blossoms (aka sakura) plum blossoms are a real treat to the eye as well.
