Sendai Tanabata Festival: A 3-day Festival Decorating Tohoku with Elegance
During the Sendai Tanabata Festival the main shopping street leading away from Sendai Station, "Ichiban-cho," is decorated with approximately 3000 colorful streamers, which attract more than 2 million visitors every year.
The streamers, created by a wide range of companies and communities, will overwhelm you by the hugeness when you see from the bottom. Each streamer is unique. There also are many stores there, so you will enjoy not only the festival, but the town just like walking on a unreal space.
The Sendai Tanabata Festival is held for 3 days, on 6, 7 and 8 August each year.
Besides, the eve of the festival is held on August 5.
Sendai City set the mood on the day for the upcoming Tanabata Festival by the following these events.
In daytime: Sendai Suzume and Sendai Tanabata dancing
In late evening: a ceremony for the light-up and the countdown live show
At night: a fireworks show
The Sendai Tanabata Festival is an event at which you can enjoy the long-history atmosphere with your eyes, ears, and skins, regardless of age or sex. Why don't you go and see one of the "3 Major Festivals in Tohoku" for yourself ?
