Orbi Yokohama – Experiencing and Learning About Nature, All in One

Observing and experiencing nature in real life is no longer a problem. Orbi Yokohama can definitely provide you with lots of interesting and new discoveries. Opened in 2013, Orbi Yokohama is an experience-oriented museum collaborated by BBC Earth and SEGA. When you visit Yokohama, this museum is absolutely a must-see spot.

At the Counter

You are required to buy tickets at the counter before getting inside. There are two kinds of tickets for visitors to choose:

(1) Admission

With admission tickets, visitors can only enter free exhibitions like Earth Cruising, Earth Canvas, Ocean Explorer, etc.

(2) Passport (admission and exhibition are included)

* Prices vary depending on people of different ages.

After buying ticket(s), visitors will be given wrist band(s). It is used for entering Orbi Yokohama.

Entertainment Exhibitions – Discovering Unknown Worlds and Experience Nature

As there are too many exhibitions in Orbi Yokohama for one article, only some of them will be introduced in following paragraphs:


At the entrance, a huge screen demonstrates a wide range of full-size animals. Standing there can make you feel like real animals are actually near you. By reaching out or moving your hands, animals’ behavior can be learnt. Different types of animals are changed every 30 minutes.

Earth Cruising

Do you want to have a free-of-charge exhilarating flight experience? Here comes the chance! Earth Cruising can provide visitors with an extraordinary experience by viewing breathtaking scenery all around the world. Scenic spots like Canada’s Banff National Park, Sahara Desert, etc. will be shown. There are altogether two screens showing different landscapes across the globe. Visitors can view spectacular and beautiful scenery as if you are flying up high in the sky. 

Earth Canvas

As we all know, the world is full of infinities. By entering Earth Canvas, you can discover a world full of colours. By simply placing different colour boards provided by Orbi Yokohama on a certain area, the projector will project multifarious species of animals and insects on the large screen. Let’s admire the beauty of nature!

Animal Selfie

By standing on a certain area designated by Orbi Yokohama, visitors can be changed into various animals. If visitors would like to keep a record of the photos, just make use of their wrist bands and print them out at the souvenir shop!

Ocean Explorer

A huge screen in Ocean Explorer demonstrates a 7-minute video of a large array of marine lives, portraying an underwater world. Visitors can have a chance of glancing at different species of marine lives. They can experience nature as if diving in deep sea themselves. 

Souvenir Shop

Before leaving Orbi Yokohama, don’t miss the chance of paying a visit to Orbi Yokohama’s souvenir shop! As mentioned earlier, visitors can print out their selfies with the help of photograph machines below.

In the meantime, you can find quite a number of special souvenirs inside. Say for example, for those who are super animal lovers can buy specimens there.

Other souvenirs like toys and stationary are also sold inside. Happy shopping!

Points That You Have to Be Aware Of:

  1. No photographs in some of the exhibitions.
  2. Remember to return the wrist band(s) to the box, which is outside the souvenir shop, before leaving Orbi Yokohama.
