Kilo Shop and Café

With a unique technique called "vintage sold by weight" imported from its main store in Paris you can get amazing value on brand clothing and accessories in Tokyo’s Kilo Shops. "Freely you want to enjoy the fashion" is the motto to keep in mind while hunting for the perfect item for you to enjoy a nice latte in the nearby Streamer Coffee Company cafe. So now you are probably wondering how does this work?

Kilo Shop

Well, it is quite simple. Kilo Shop is a store chain operating two stores in Japan, which are located in Tokyo’s Shibuya and Meguro ward. For those abroad Kilo Shop also has two stores in Paris (France), two stores in Athens (Greece) and another store in Amsterdam (the Netherlands). At Kilo Shop you will find second-hand vintage clothing and accessories sold by the kilo and many happy shoppers digging through the racks and piles on the hunt for something unique. With the prices per kilo being marked by a color tag, whereby yellow is 3.000¥, red 4.000¥, green 5.000 and blue 6.000¥, and some items also have a fixed price marked with a purple tag it is quite easy to find a lot on a budget.

You of course do not have to buy a kilo’s worth of items as you can also buy a single item of which the price will be determined by how much it weighs. As an indication you could say a single blouse would cost about 600¥ while a heavier dress is about 1.750¥. Please keep in mind however that although the store in Meguro offers both male and female clothing the store near Harajuku only has women’s clothing.

After having shopped till you drop a nice coffee is a great reward for all that digging you just did. On the ground floor of the Meguro store is the main establishment of Streamer Coffee Company, which offers delicious coffee and snacks with a modern minimalist atmosphere. The company has establishment throughout Tokyo, including one just around the corner of the Kilo Store in Harajuku. Streamer is famed for its latte and its founder has even won the Free Pour Latte Championships, and yes that is an actual event believe it or not.
