Haru Kaze: A Dance Celebration in Yoyogi Park
Spring is a great season for spending time outdoors. In Tokyo, the weather is starting to warm up and residents and tourists enjoy the beauty of the lightly pink colored cherry blossoms that blanket the city. Yoyogi park is a popular destination for cherry blossom viewing during the spring, and just happens to be the place where music lovers come together for a weekend of live music, dancing, crafts, food, and more!

Last year I was lucky to find one of the most exciting outdoor dance parties that I've experienced in Tokyo. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and the air was crisp as I walked over the to the sound of electronic beats filling the air. What I discovered was an outdoor music festival with thousands of people dancing and enjoying the beautiful spring day.
This year's Haru Kaze will be held on April 2nd and 3rd in Yoyogi park. There will be three stages with live music and DJ performances. Along with the music there will be an art gallery, a children’s area, a fair trade market, and lots of food and drinks available for purchase.
This year they are expanding the children’s area so parents can enjoy the music with their children. When you need a rest from dancing, take your children to some of the arts and crafts workshops, like yarn spinning, silk-screen printing, and more. Walk on over to the Paradise Area for all of the fun children’s activities.
In addition to the music festival, there will be a parade on Sunday, April 3rd from 2:00-3:00pm. Participates are encouraged to bring their musical instruments, artwork, and fun costumes to showcase free thought and art and express it in the streets of Shibuya.
Are you a coffee lover? This year will also host Coffee Street at the same location as Haru Kaze. More than 10 coffee companies and food companies will be on location from 10am-8pm on the 2nd and 3rd of April. Caffeine will help you maintain energy for more dancing! Be sure to try a cup or two.
To access the venue, head to Harajuku station. From the station, head south and stay to the right. Follow the park past Meiji Shrine. Walk about 500 meters and the location will be on your left. Please see the map below:
