The Mount Haguro five-story pagoda is located in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture and is designated as a national treasure. Here is an introduction of the highlights.

The pagoda can be found at the entrance of Mount Haguro approach “ichi-no-zaka”, surrounded by cedar trees.

The pagoda was founded by Tairano Masakado, and is said to be the oldest pagoda in the Tohoku region.

Near the Pagoda, we can find a 10 meters circumference giant cedar tree called “Jiji-sugi”, which is said to be 1000 years old.

From the pagoda, it is approximately a 10 minutes walk to the Zuishinmon gate.

This pagoda can also be visited in the evening. The magical atmosphere of the lit-up five-story pagoda can be enjoyed from June to September.
In this quiet place surrounded by cedar trees, you can feel the historical atmosphere. It is highly recommended for a visit.
