Kyushu is the southernmost of Japan's main four islands. The Kyushu region includes eight prefectures: Fukuoka, Saga, Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Oita, Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Okinawa. The area partly enjoys a sub-tropical climate.
One of the most difficult things about living in Japan is where to find a decent burger? The hambaagaa served in most restaurants in Japan is nowhere close to being the same thing as having a juicy beef patty on a toasted bun and loaded with condiments.

Kimotsuki is situated in the southern tip of the Osumi Peninsula, one of two peninsulas making Kagoshima Prefecture. The town is dubbed "The Oriental Florida" because of its mild climate and abundant nature of mountain ranges and the Pacific Ocean behind it. In addition, it is also known for Uchinoura Space Center, one of the six rocket launch sites in Japan. Kagoshima is known as the Japanese rocket prefecture.

A thunderous boom is heard off in the distance. Maybe you even feel a tremor beneath your feet. You look out the window and see a massive cloud of ash rocketing up into the sky from the mouth of a volcano. You’d think this would be frightening. But for the people of Kagoshima prefecture who reside close to Mt. Sakurajima, this is a daily occurrence.

A full day can be spent easily in the Oohori park. But if time is a concern, I recommend going in the afternoon. Walk around the path, stop on the reflexology station and sit to see the sunlight filtering through the trees.

A visit to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shinto shrine from early February to mid-March is breathtakingly beautiful. Planted throughout the shrine grounds are over 6,000 flowering plum trees! Red, pink and white sweetly-scented blossoms permeate the grounds with amazing color and intoxicating scents celebrating the coming of spring!
