As a huge Disney fanatic, any excuse to make the trip out is a good one but Halloween at Tokyo Disney Resort is especially alluring. While I tend to favor Disney Sea over Disneyland, I will ALWAYS pick the latter when it comes to Halloween theme.

The tradition wants that the night between 31st October and 1st November is when the gate between the world of the living and the dead is open. That's when people set bonfires to scare off ghosts and evil spirits and wear costumes to deceive them.

This year, DisneySea’s annual Halloween celebration takes place September 8th – November 1st! This year, DisneySea’s theme is focused around villains! Disney’s most notorious villains take center stage and take over shows, merchandise and even the menu!

There is one more thing about Halloween in Japan that needs to be told, and requires a whole article on its own. I am talking about the Halloween parades. The biggest in the Kanto region, the region with Tokyo and Yokohama cities, is the Kawasaki Halloween parade.

Halloween is not a new phenomenon by all means but it has literally exploded onto the shop shelves this year in Japan. With fewer and more expensive options for kids in years past, I went DIY on the kids costumes.

Seven years ago, Halloween wasn’t really a big thing in Japan. One could see a few decorations here and there, but that was about it. Now, Halloween can be seen almost everywhere! From decorations, to parties, to sweet treats, Halloween has taken over October in Japan!
